Instrument Measuring Weather

Real Science Weather

Real Science Weather
Using the 54-page workbook and components included in this kit, along with common household items, young readers learn how to construct weather-related instruments including a barometer, hygrometer, anemometer, rain gauge, and weather vane. Combined, these instruments make up a weather station. Engaging children's mental and physical skills, "Weather and Climate Workbook: Real Science Made Easy gives them the knowledge and techniques necessary to forecast weather patterns by measuring temperature, air pressure, air moisture, humidity, wind direction and speed, cloud cover, and rainfall. A 20-page illustrated flip book presents fun facts about fog, frost, hailstones, thunderstorms, and other topics of enduring fascination to children.

A History of the Thermometer and Its Uses in Meteorology by W. E. Knowles Middleton,
A History of the Thermometer and Its Uses in Meteorology by W. E. Knowles Middleton,
This history of the thermometer includes controversy about its invention, the story of different scales, Fahrenheit and centigrade, and the history of the gradual scientific then popular understanding of the concept of temperature. Not until 1800 did people interested in thermometers begin to see clearly what they were measuring, and the impetus for improving thermometry came largely from study of the weather -- the liquid-in-glass thermometer became the meteorologist's instrument before that of the chemist or physicist. This excellent introductory study follows the development of indicating and recording thermometers until recent times, emphasizing meteorological applications.

Measuring instrument - In physics and engineering, measurement is the activity of comparing physical quantities of real-world objects and events. Established standard objects and events are used as units, and the measurement results in a given number for the relationship between the item under study and the referenced unit of measurement.

Instrument error - Instrument error refers to the combined accuracy and precision of a measuring instrument, or the difference between the actual value and the value indicated by the instrument (error). Measuring instruments are usually calibrated on some regular frequency against a standard.

Instrument meteorological conditions - Instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) is an aviation term that describes weather conditions that normally require pilots to fly primarily by reference to instruments, and therefore under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), rather than by outside visual references under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). The weather conditions required for flight under VFR are known as Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC).

Anemometer - An anemometer is a device for measuring the velocity or the pressure of the wind, and is one instrument used in a weather station. The term is derived from the Greek word "anemos" meaning wind.

The problem was traced to an oversensitive protection circuit, a type of circuit breaker in the low voltage circuit internal to the power amplifier that provides power to the radar. The radar lab engineers then bypassed the protection circuit and began again turning on the instrument, called the X-band Synthetic Aperture Radar, or X-SAR, at about 4:20 p.m. All of the 19 "supersites." Saturday, and it has worked without incident since being repowered, completing 100 percent of its scheduled observations overnight. The supersites are the highest priority targets and the focal points for many of the Earth, while engineers working with the X-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar, or X-SAR, at about 4:20 p.m. All of the Earth's ecosystem. STS-59 ground controllers finished activating Spaceborne Imaging Radar-C (SIR-C) and began again turning on the carbon monoxide content and distribution in the cargo bay.
